October 24 - Samhain, the in-between space

Samhain (pronounced "Saw'n" or /ˈsɑːwɪn, ˈsaʊɪn/) marks the liminal space between the autumn equinox and winter solstice. As Delica Cee will tell you: "the veil is thin" at this time; especially when your Wondrous Witch of East Van casts to the four winds and seals the circle.

According to Irish mythology, Samhain (like Bealtaine) is a time when the 'doorways' to the Otherworld opened, allowing supernatural beings and the souls of the dead to come into our world. While Bealtaine was a summer festival for the living, Samhain "is essentially a festival for the dead" [wikipedia]. We staved off the dying long enough to cheer on the very lively performers.

We joined Delica Cee, The Witch of East Van, as she led us through a ritual for the season and had everyone forgetting to breathe with her poetry.

And who can forget Delica's classic song about amazing dexterity? Followed by a song to send a bird safely home, sang by all.

Two new (to me, at least) vocal performers joined the chorus - elphin Lorelei Lwyd with more vibrato control than anyone should have, and

the super sexy sultry-voiced Juano Andreas who stayed supremely cool under audio challenges and delivered heart-felt deep-voiced sound.
