Vancouver's Hypha Project Synchrosentient IPA
Firstly, I absolutely love the cover art (if that's what you call it) - love the theme and the design. Really enjoying this IPA by Hypa Project, it has quite a fruity taste, i'm getting pineapple and passionfruit. The artist is Amanda Smart, whose site includes some amazing tattoo art. She writes about herself: "Born and raised on the Sunshine Coast, BC, I loved nature, painting and drawing from a young age. "
Canadian Beer News describes the IPA as "Synchrosentient IPA is a double-dry hopped Northeast style IPA with a synchronized hop blend of Strata + Citra hops. A bouquet of strawberry + passionfruit + stonefruit + citrus notes come together in the most sentient way."
Dagenraad 10 degrees
A great beer from Dagenraad, absolutely amazing and a new favourite -hard to get though (even from The Gull). Taste of coriander and of course the hard to describe but unmistakable taste of Belgian style beer.
Like a gentle granola breakfast, with smooth grains, nuts and a honey flavour. You really get the full awesome brewery smell and flavour with this one, and the umami feeling coats your mouth touched by the tingle of the alcohol; a solid 10.5%.
From their site (which is well worth the visit - a lot of history!): "Dageraad 10° is our secular homage to the strong, dark ales brewed by Trappist monks in Belgium. The strength of the wort and the addition of exotic, unrefined sugars has tormented the yeast into producing magnificently complex fruit and spice notes to complement the beer’s malty profundity. Its flavour will develop for up to three years in the bottle if properly stored."
Bruery Mischief
The Bruery Mischief, hoppy Belgian-style beer.
Slight apricot front taste and a Lemony-bitter at the back; and something that reminded me of the smell of young twigs or sun-kissed straw-bales. I'm getting a slight hint of candied ginger and we may have to agree to disagree on that :). Pleasant and easy to drink.
This is what Bruery themselves say: "This wickedly good golden ale is fiendishly dry-hopped to add a layer of complexity to its fruity, crisp Belgian-style character. Citrus and resin aromas combine with notes of ripe melon, pear, and a slight peppery spice in our winner of the Gold Medal – 2016 Great American Beer Festival, American-Belgo-Style Ale. "

Collective Arts Brewing have for many years drawn attention with their imaginative and artful cover designs. This year's "Origin of Darkness" series (it looks like there was a 2020 release as well) brings us a number of stouts
I've tested several of the series, and they are all worth trying. In particular, the origin of Darkness - an imperial stout with cherries, vanilla and cacao: strong deep cherry, subtle black forest kinda cooked baked cherry - scent hint of orange. no bourbon at all, but yes to the port. no vanilla, very cherry. Produced in collaboration with Equilibriam from NY state - which also has some amazing double and triple IPAs.
